Abstract

Objective: to assess the accuracy of hysteroscopy in the diagnosis of endometrial pathologies and compare it to sonography and histopathology reports.

subject and methods: a prospective study performed in Baghdad teaching hospital on 60 Iraqi females had different complaints from abnormal uterine bleeding in pre and post-menopausal women, infertility, and chronic pelvic pain whom they have normal or abnormal ultrasound findings, office hysteroscopy was done and endometrial biopsy was taken for histopathology on a period of ten months from September 2020 to June 2021.

Results: The current study showed hysteroscopy was more significant in sensitivity of endometrial poly100%, fibroids 83% hyperplasia84.2, and cancer50% while Us was more significant in sensitivity to endometrial myoma90%. both hysteroscopy and ultrasound showed low sensitivity in detecting endometrial cancer 50% and 34% respectively.

Conclusion: although transvaginal ultrasound considered one on the integral parts in the diagnosis of endometrial pathologies, it can be used an initial investigation however when suspecting endometrial pathology, hysteroscopy can offer more advanced method for evaluation and for both immediate treatment of endometrial masses and to take targeted biopsies. hysteroscopy showed high sensitivity in detecting endometrial polyps.
