Abstract

Metabolic Syndrome (MetS) has emerged as a predominant global health crisis, characterized by a complex cluster of risk factors including central obesity, insulin resistance, dyslipidemia, and hypertension. This study provides a comprehensive research paper drafted from the perspective of an advanced researcher in Ayurveda, aimed at correlating the modern biomedical constructs of MetS with the Ayurvedic principles of Medovaha Srotas pathology. The investigation explores the anatomical and physiological foundations of Meda  Dhatu (adipose tissue) and its transport channels, Medovaha Srotas, identifying their Moolasthana (roots) in the Vrikka (kidney) and Vapavahana (omentum) as per classical Samhita descriptions. Through a critical review of Charaka Samhita, Sushruta Samhita, and Ashtanga Hridaya, the paper delineates the etiology of Santarpanottha Vyadhi (over-nutrition disorders) and the role of Agni mandya (metabolic impairment) and Ama (endotoxins) in driving systemic inflammation and insulin resistance. The management strategy integrates Shodhana  (biopurification) therapies such as Virechana  and Udvartana with Shamana  (palliative) interventions involving evidence-based herbs like Guggulu, Haridra (Curcumin), and Triphala. Modern pharmacological pathways, including the modulation of PPAR-gamma, TNF-alpha, and gut microbiota, are synthesized with Ayurvedic concepts to provide a multi-dimensional treatment framework. This research highlights the efficacy of an integrated Ayurvedic approach in managing metabolic biomarkers and reducing the risk of cardiovascular morbidity and type 2 diabetes.[i]
